Dudley, The Lazy Dawg

I would be remiss if I did not introduce my sidekick and the CBO of Lazy Dawg Pottery, Dudley Doo Wright. The Dudster is a legend in his own mind. He claims that he's a descendant from royalty, the latest in a long line of Attack Bassets and lion killing dogs.

Dudley spends his time talking politics with the neighbors, he claims to be a liberal minded conservative with no party affiliation, herding squirrels, who he's labeled, "tree rats", and overseeing my pottery making. As you can see, Dudley is a bundle of energy.

Dudley says that politics might be his calling. He says that he might start out small, maybe alderman or mayor then jump subtly into national politics, eyeing a senate or representative seat and then the plum of all political aspirations, become a lobbyist.
Dudley says that all of Washington will become his marked territory.

Old Times: Magic Days

I find that, from time to time, I like to drift back into my past and remember those things and people who, without knowing it or intending to do so, added bits and pieces toward who I'd eventually become...

Bill Woodcock and Nick Jones at the Elks Club while everybody else was decorating for the senior party. Woodcock always had a nickname for everyone. Mine was Tubby Tom, a name he gave me the first week I met him. He called Nick, "The Fine Young Man".

Allen Rugh and Chuck (Charles Allen) Peirson also at the decorating party. Woodcock dubbed Chuck as "All The Way Al".

Craig McEldowney. Craig, as I remember drove around in a little Metropolitan or Neopolitan or something like that. a little two-seater. If I remember correctly it was plenty roomy enough for Craig but anyone else who rode with him literally dragged their fingers on the ground.

I value the good will and memories of my classmates at Corvallis High School so let me know if you have a problem with an image on this site and I will remove it right away. The photos are intended for the enjoyment of those who were fortunate enough to live in a wonderful time at a wonderful place and to bring back those warm memories.

At the very end of our school year, just before graduation, my parents gave me a Poloroid camera as a graduation present, I suppose. I went crazy with it. Most of these photos were taken at the very end of our senior year, with that camera. I remember the all night party we had after graduation. Most of the photos were taken there or while some worked very hard decorating for it - as I remember, I didn't work very hard decorating but enjoyed the company of friends immensely.

If anyone would like a copy of any of these photos, simply right click on the photo and choose the "save image as..." option and save it to your computer.

I'm not going to post all of the photos at one time, but intend to string them out some, to arouse your curiosity.

If anyone would like to post photos on this page or to let classmates know what has become of them, please email the info to me and I'll post them. Photos and posts can be of anything past or present. Memories of our senior year are especially welcome...
enjoy.

The Grand Old Lady

Corvallis High School

The old girl looks less imposing in this photo than the image that I carry with me as I first saw it, late on that mid-summer day in 1963.

You know, it's a shame that we never thought to take our own photos of the old school way back "then". I guess we just assumed that it would be around forever.

These photos were given to me, by email, by Jennifer Schroeder after I contacted the Corvallis superintendent and she put her "people" on the task. The superintendent's name is Dawn Tarzian , so, if you run across either of these good folks, say thank you. They had to do a bit of searching to come up with these and had to scan them, as they were hard copies. I did share with them the thought that what a shame it was that more weren't available as this old school was a piece of history for a whole lot of people. Having the school I taught at for thirty years torn down and a new one built in its place gave me a thorough understanding that project managers seem only to view the future and disregard the past.

I remember sitting in Belva Weichner's Latin class, next to David Livingston, John's kid brother, when the intercom came on broadcasting the shooting of John F. Kennedy - that was an eerie day. As I recall, it was a day of confusion and bewilderment. We had a basketball game that night and people showed up with their aluminum pie plate noise-makers and a lot of the girls dressed in their blue "spirit" uniforms and the tragedy was put aside for a little while.

Hello Classmates,

This space is being designed and started by Tom Wright and Janie Poole Peery. We hope that everyone one of you will add something to it sometimes.

Here are some suggestions: updated photo's; retirement plans; no retirement plans, family photo's, vacation photo's, news flashes about your life in the moment. And anything else that you would like to contribute. It is meant to be a CLASS SPACE and not the space of one or a few people. We trust that you won't place anything on the space that would be offensive to others some examples: no naked pictures! no really off-color jokes; - Janie

Janie and I thought it might be kind of neat to create a blog so that any and all of our CHS classmates can share thoughts of the present, future and, of course, the past. We thought of some topics that would be interesting to some or all. These include the following:

Announcements - personal or public - like maybe birth announcements, being grandparents (or great grandparents) including photos of family, weddings, deaths, reunions, milestones, etc.Invitations - any events that you'd like for others to know about...

Bragging rights - anything that you'd like to brag about, for example, Woodcock might want to brag about Oregon State actually winning a football game or your son or daughter or grandkids might have done something you're proud of.

Remembering - things from the past that we might want to recall - like the time Doug Downer was banned from performing in the school "hootenanny", held in the cafeteria one night, but performed anyway and the show was shut down by assistant principal Robert Payne...

Families, friends, community - photos, lots of photos of your families, friends, where you live - what Corvallis used to look like and what it looks like now...

Sharing recipes and tips - like filing for social security or the recipe for your world famous lemon iced box pie - or how you've been able to recreate the world famous "gooey"...

Vacations - where you've gone, where you're going, etc.

Scenic photos - neat things you've seen...

Help wanted - if you need help or advice - just ask...

These are just some of the ideas that we've come up with to include in the blog, but there are bound to be plenty more out there. let us know. .
